Quick Fire Whisky Tasting Notes

Redbreast Lustau

Irish Whiskey
46% ABV

Nose: Sherry soaked sultanas - Luxardo maraschino cherries – candied orange peel – stewed prunes - poached pears - Quality Street strawberry fondant creams – sugared almonds – pink marshmallows – smoked walnuts - fig rolls – warm banana bread –  Jamaican spiced fruit bun - marzipan – ready rolled icing and trusses of teasing toasted oak.

Palate: Sherry soaked sultanas and raisins - Hotel Chocolat kirsch cherries – candid orange peel – grilled peaches – spiced poached pears – Tiptree blackberry jelly - sugared almonds – buttered slices of Soreen malt loaf - bread pudding - a big pinch of mixed spice and more of that tenacious toasted oak.

Finish: A long, lush, luxurious, lip-smacker of a finish, from a dram that well and truly seduces the senses.

Summary: Another absolute dramspanking Irish dramming ditty from Redbreast, which has been produced as a celebration of the brands relationship with the equally passion driven Lustau sherry bodega in Jerez, Spain.

If you're a fan of Redbreast, this new permanent core range expression is not as sherry heavy as you may expect, but in my opinion purposefully so. It not only manages to showcase the rich and unctuous signature style of the multi-award winning pot still Irish whiskey brand, in a stripped down and stripped back kind of a way, it also manages to harmoniously highlight a 'less is more' feel on the sherry front, with a true refined essence coming through, rather than a full-on sheer sherried shriek.
