Even though the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is a tad over eager to please on the palate in my opinion, it’s still a very satisfying dram that delivers an abundance of profound port-opian fruity based wonders to the senses.
On the nose there’s an oozing swirling port breeze that’s managed to infused itself with a decadent and very rich hot chocolate fondant, and a covering of a courageously concentrated raspberry coulis.
Big bold baked elements in the form of a warm wonderlicious fruit malt loaf, and a thick slice of banana cake that's been sprinkled with a light dusting of cinnamon make for the next set of nasal delights.
Dried dates and apricots also confidently get in on the action before what I can only describe as the element of damp velvet, that makes a rather weird yet satisfying appearance.
The sensations on the palate aren’t backwards in coming forward either. Despite it being a dram that I feel is a tad over eager to please the palate it’s filled with wonderful chewy, winey, fruity sweet elements that can’t fail to satisfy.
There are bursts of spiced orange that try to punch their way through a thick satisfying wall of plum and raspberry jam. Followed by the bold presence of a chocolate malted milkshake, which acts like a slightly out of control airport travelator, carrying all the aforementioned wonderlicious wonders to their final destination.
The palatable proceedings are then concluded with a light lingering encore of all the aforementioned delights of this dramming smorgasbord, that then evolves into something not too dissimilar to that of a warm pint of Old Speckled Hen ale.
